1. Build two coordinated parts

Choose the reflexive or pronominal pronoun that agrees with the subject, then conjugate the base verb. The subject pronoun is often optional; me, te, se, nos or os is normally essential to the intended meaning.

Me despierto temprano.I wake up early.
Nos entendemos bien.We understand each other well.
2. Read the complete construction

A pronominal verb is not created by translating oneself word for word. Learn its natural meaning, required preposition and common context as one unit.

Me acuerdo de la dirección.I remember the address.
Se niega a firmar. He or she refuses to sign.
3. Subject pronouns remain optional

Me siento bien and Yo me siento bien are both complete. If the interface already supplies yo, write only me siento in the blank.

4. Nosotros and vosotros stay outside the boot

Use nos despertamos, os sentáis, nos sentimos and os divertís. Do not extend ie to these two persons.

Me despierto / nos despertamosI wake up / we wake up
Se siente / os sentísHe or she feels / you all feel
5. Sentarse and sentirse are different verbs

Sentarse means to sit down and uses forms such as me siento and te sientas. Sentirse means to feel and uses me siento and te sientes. The context and infinitive identify the intended verb.

Me siento junto a la ventana.I sit by the window.
Me siento mejor hoy.I feel better today.
6. Learn required connectors

Arrepentirse normally uses de, negarse uses a before an infinitive, referirse uses a, convertirse uses en and defenderse often uses de.

Se arrepiente de su decisión.She regrets her decision.
Se convierte en hielo. It turns into ice.
7. Common mistakes
Yo me desperto temprano.Yo me despierto temprano.

Nosotros nos despiertimos.Nosotros nos despertamos.

The pronominal meaning requires se.

Se niega firmar.Se niega a firmar.
